Design-Build Projects

TxDOT – Ft. Worth District, Southeast Connector (IH820/US287/IH20), Ft. Worth, Texas. TXDOT reviewer for Bridges and Retaining wall disciplines. Review and comment on plans as part of GEC.

LSC/TxDOT – Dallas District, IH35 East Phase II (IH635 to PGBT), Farmers Branch/Carrolton, Texas. QA Lead for Bridges and Retaining wall disciplines. Review and comment on plans as part of Independent Quality.

PLC/TxDOT – Dallas District, LBJ East (IH635/US75 to IH635/IH30), Dallas/Garland/Mesquite, Texas. Discipline Lead for Retaining walls in the project. Managed 7 retaining wall teams with a total of 25 personnel, which included 3 out of state teams and 2 subconsultant teams. Produced optimized deliverables on schedule and under budget. Lane-Abrams Joint Venture/TxDOT – Fort Worth District, SH360 (IH20 to US287) (Design Build Project), Arlington, Texas. Bridge Task Lead for the design of 12 bridges in this $300 million project. The bridges included two 18 span creek crossings, 5 wide underpasses (145 ft to 180 ft wide), 2 overpasses and 3 smaller creek crossings with NTTA aesthetics. Coordinated with structural staff from different offices, disciplines and sub consultants. Transitioned to the Structural Discipline Lead for the project in the construction phase, adding 7 bridges designed by a sub consultant firm to the coordination responsibility. Worked out of the Project Office for several months to assist the contractor with construction phased services and questions. Responded to multiple RFIs, NCRs and reviewed shop drawings.

Pegasus Link Contractors/TxDOT – Dallas District, Dallas Horseshoe (IH 35/IH 30) Corridor (Design Build Project), Dallas, Texas. Design Lead (signed and sealed plans) for 4 bridges in this $850 Million Design/Build project. Involved in the design of 8 other bridges and multiple drainage structures. Successful project delivery under aggressive schedule and limited resources.

Trinity Infrastructure/TxDOT – Dallas District, Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway (IH 635/LBJ) Corridor (PPP), Dallas, Texas. Design Lead (signed and sealed plans) for 10 bridges in this $4 Billion Design/Build project. This included three main-lane bridges from 12 to 20 spans and 6 other ramp bridges. Managed two EITs and a CAD Tech to complete these bridges in less than 5 months. Successful project delivery under aggressive schedule, limited resources and complex bridge geometries.

Bluebonnet Contractors/TxDOT – Fort Worth District, North Tarrant Expressway Segment 1 West (PPP), Fort Worth, Texas. Design Lead (signed and sealed plans) for 5 bridges, including two direct connectors, one braided ramp, and two complex underpass bridges and design engineer for 2 other bridges in this 8-mile corridor with general purpose ‘free’ lanes and managed ‘tolled’ lanes with a price tag of $1.1 Billion. The two direct connector bridges combined were 60 spans in length (about 6000′ long), the three underpass bridges combined were 97,000 square feet in deck area. Successful project delivery under aggressive schedule and limited resources.

Prairie Link Contractors/NTTA, SH 161, Grand Prairie, Texas. Designed Soil Nail walls and Tied-Back Anchor walls under the existing bridge at Egyptian Way Road to enable the passage of SH161 under Egyptian way. 

Design-Build Proposals

PLC/TxDOT – Dallas District, LBJ East (IH635/US75 to IH635/IH30), Dallas/Garland/Mesquite, Texas. Managed a retaining wall team as Task Lead for Retaining Walls on the job (60 retaining walls). Coordinated and managed other retaining wall teams as well and reported to the structures DL and client. Produced optimized deliverables on schedule and under budget. Responsible for setting limits, creating profiles, optimizations and preliminary designs of Drilled Shaft, Soil Nail, Cantilever, Mod Rail and MSE walls.

Southgate Contractors/TxDOT – Dallas District, The Southern Gateway (IH35/US67), Dallas, Texas. Managed a retaining wall team as Task Lead for Retaining Walls for 2 segments on the job (110 retaining walls and noise walls). Coordinated with other disciplines and the structures DL and other sub consultant firms. Produced optimized deliverables on schedule and under budget. Responsible for optimizations and preliminary designs of Drilled Shaft, Soil Nail, Cantilever, Mod Rail and MSE walls and their limits and locations.

Lane-Abrams Joint Venture/TxDOT – Fort Worth District, SH360 (IH20 to US287), Arlington, Texas. Structural Task Lead for the AECOM team that won the proposal. Responsible for optimizations in bridge layouts, preliminary design, bridge quantities and in the production of bridge layout sheets under the leadership of the Structural Discipline Lead.

Airport Mobility Partners/TxDOT – Dallas District, SH 183/SH114 Midtown Express, Irving, Texas. Bridge Task Lead for this proposal which stretched about 20 mi and included 48 bridges. Managed 2 sub-consultants and supervised EITs and CAD in the production of 30% plans. Created quantity estimates and design optimizations for the contractor. The AECOM team received the highest overall score but did not win the proposal.

Other Major Projects

TxDOT – Fort Worth District, SH360 at IH30 Interchange (PS&E), Arlington, Texas. Designed (sign and sealed plans) 2 overpass bridges and 12 straddle bents for 3 direct connectors in the AECOM/URS section of the project. Coordinated seamlessly with legacy URS staff to help them meet their deadlines.

TxDOT – Austin District, SH130 widening, Austin, Texas. Was the Quality Control reviewer on the project for both calculations (6 bridges) and plan sheets (15 bridges) on the project.

TxDOT – Dallas District, LOOP 12 (SH183-SH114-Spur482), Irving, Texas. Design Engineer in the final design and detailing of substructure and foundation for 5 bridges including direct connectors. The bridges incorporated aesthetic elements such as decorative flared columns.

NTTA – SH 121 Section 2 (Southwest Parkway), Ft Worth, Texas. Project Engineering Analyst for the final design and detailing of 4 bridges including overpasses, underpasses, and river crossings. The bridges incorporated aesthetic elements such as decorative pedestal monuments at bridge ends, planter boxes along the bridge length, and decorative columns.

Multi-level Interchanges

Bluebonnet Contractors/ TxDOT – Fort Worth District, North Tarrant Expressway Segment 1 West, Fort Worth, Texas. Design Lead (signed and sealed plans) for two direct connectors with accelerated schedule at the IH-820/IH-35W multi-level interchange. Designs included pre-stressed I-girders, straddle bents, and 90 ft tall hammer head bents. The two direct connector bridges combined for 60 spans and totaled 180,000 sqft.

TxDOT – Fort Worth District, SH360 at IH30 Interchange (PS&E), Arlington, Texas. Designed (sign and sealed plans) 12 straddle bents for 3 direct connectors in the AECOM/URS section of the project.

Other Major & Minor Bridges

Designed over 20 on and off system bridges including creek crossings, railroad crossings, overpasses and underpasses for several TxDOT districts, 4 different cities and several private developers. Major projects included:

City of Richardson, Routh Creek Parkway, Richardson, Texas. Bridge design analyst for this 480-foot-long U-beam Bridge and a 350 ft long boardwalk to connect to the park below.

City of Dallas, Inland Port, Dallas, Texas. Bridge task manager for 995-foot I-beam bridge over BNSF railroad and Whites Branch Creek. Supervised design and the production of plans.

Bridge Inspection and Justification

TxDOT – Dallas District, IH635/IH35 LBJ corridor, Dallas, Texas. Conducted a photographic survey of about 400 bents holding up the Managed Lanes between Preston Rd and Josey Lane for cracking. Based on the photographic survey, 6 bents were shortlisted for detailed inspection. Conducted detailed inspection on a scissor lift and created a report on the findings for TXDOT.

TxDOT – Fort Worth District, Bridge Justifications, Texas. Design Analyst for multiple bridges in this project, conducted field visits to assess the existing condition of several bridges, reviewed the condition survey, and developed a report recommending the replacement or rehabilitation of the bridge.

TxDOT – Dallas District, Corinth Street Bridge, Texas. Design Analyst in field inspection of the 75-year-old bridge and supplied structural repair details.

Retaining Walls

Designed several retaining walls including CIP Cantilever walls, Drilled Shaft walls, Soil Nail walls, Tied-Back Anchor walls and MSE walls. Major projects included:

LBJ East. (IH635/IH30) – Dallas District (Design Build Project), Dallas, Texas.

The Southern Gateway (IH35/US67) – Dallas District, IH35/US67 (Design Build Proposal), Dallas, Texas.

Prairie Link Contractors/North Texas Tollway Authority, SH 161, Grand Prairie, Texas. Design Lead in the design of 3 Soil Nail walls and Tied-Back Anchor walls under the existing bridge at Egyptian Way.

Trinity Infrastructure/TxDOT – Dallas District, IH 635/LBJ Corridor (PPP), Dallas, Texas. Designed Tie-Back Drilled shaft walls for a 500′ section of the wall with wall heights up to 35 ft and supporting a 20 ft MSE wall on top.

Drainage Structures

Designed several drainage structures including over 40 Junction boxes, over 15 box culverts and culvert extensions, drainage inlets and out-fall structures and several miscellaneous structures for Design Build and other projects.

Other Structures

North Texas Tollway Authority, Design of Toll Gantry Standards, Texas. Design Analyst in the development of design standards for precast toll gantries, where two designs were used, one main lane and one ramp.

United Space Alliance, Independent Analysis of Lift Platform, Miami, Florida. Design Analyst in the independent analysis of a lift platform at NASA (105 feet x 65 feet x 60 feet) as a 3D truss, consisting of over 1000 elements.
